How to Make a Plastic Lid Ladybug! šŸž | Easy Recycled Craft for Kids

Updated: Jul 10, 2025

Today, we’re getting crafty and making something cute, colourful, and eco-friendly — a Plastic Lid Ladybug! šŸžā˜€ļø

This is a great way to recycle old lids and turn them into sunny little friends you can stick to a window or hang up anywhere around your home. The see-through red gives it a stained-glass look when placed near the light — perfect for brightening up your space!

So grab your materials and let’s create some ladybug magic together.

How to Create Your Own Plastic Lid Ladybug šŸž

Materials Needed:

  • A plastic lid (recycled is best!)

  • Red permanent marker

  • Black permanent marker

  • 2 googly eyes

  • Double-sided tape

  • Scissors āœ‚ļø

  • Something to protect your table (like newspaper or a placemat)

Follow along with me:

Step-by-Step Instructions: How to Make Your Ladybug

1. Protect Your Craft Area

Before you begin, make sure you’ve covered your workspace. Permanent markers can stain furniture, so it’s best to lay something down first.

2. Colour the Lid Red

Take your red permanent markerĀ and colour the entire frontĀ of the plastic lid. Try to make it nice and even — think of a shiny red apple or a fresh strawberry. šŸ“

3. Outline the Lid in Black

Now grab your black permanent markerĀ and colour around the edgeĀ of the lid. This creates a bold border — like the one ladybugs naturally have!

šŸ”Ā Tip:Ā If you make a mistake — don’t worry! That area can become the head.

4. Draw the Ladybug’s Head

Next, draw a horizontal line about one-third of the way downĀ from the top. Colour in this top section — this will be the ladybug’s head.

5. Add the Wing Line

Now draw a straight vertical line down the centre of the lid to separate the wings. This makes it look like the ladybug’s wings are ready to open and fly!

6. Draw the Spots

Using your black marker again, add three dots on each wingĀ (so six in total). These are your ladybug’s famous black spots!

7. Stick on the Eyes šŸ‘€

It’s time to give your ladybug some personality!Grab your googly eyes, your double-sided tape, and your scissors.

  • Cut small bits of tape and stick one to the back of each googly eye.

  • Peel off the backing to reveal the sticky side. (šŸ’”Ā This part can be a little fiddly — don’t be afraid to ask an adult for help!)

  • Press the eyes onto the ladybug’s head — one on the left, one on the right.

šŸŽ‰Ā And You’re Done!

Congratulations! You’ve just made your very own plastic lid ladybugĀ šŸžHold it up to the light and watch it glow red — how beautiful is that?

šŸŒžĀ Where Will You Hang Yours?

These ladybugs look amazing stuck to a sunny window or blu-tacked to a wall or cupboard. You could even make a few and create a whole swarm!

Let me know where your ladybug ends up — I’d love to hear about it.
